Donor Privacy & Gift Acceptance Policy

Purpose

Diaspora Whispers Inc. is a nonprofit organization that uses the power of art and education to inspire learning, promote literacy, and encourage purposeful social engagement. We provide youth with hands-on creative experiences, engaging educational activities, and safe spaces where they can build confidence, creativity, critical thinking, and connection.

We also curate public events and community art showcases, while collaborating with nonprofits and small businesses to amplify community impact and shared missions. This policy outlines how donations are accepted, managed, recognized, and protected.

1. Donor Rights

All donors to Diaspora Whispers Inc. have the right to:

  • Be informed of our mission, programs, and how donated funds are used.

  • Receive acknowledgment and documentation for tax purposes when applicable.

  • Have their personal information kept confidential and secure.

  • Ask questions and receive prompt, truthful responses.

  • Request anonymity unless disclosure is legally required.

  • Be treated with respect, appreciation, and professionalism.

2. Use of Donations

All donations received by Diaspora Whispers Inc. will be used to support the organization’s charitable mission, including but not limited to:

  • Literacy initiatives

  • Educational programming

  • Youth arts, media, and film development

  • Community outreach events

  • Public art showcases

  • Partnerships with community organizations

  • Operational support necessary to fulfill the mission

When donations are designated for a specific campaign or purpose, every reasonable effort will be made to honor donor intent.

3. Acceptance of Gifts

Diaspora Whispers Inc. may accept donations in the following forms:

  • Cash contributions

  • Checks

  • Credit/debit card donations

  • Online donations

  • Zelle payments

  • Other applicable digital donations and payment platforms

  • Corporate sponsorships

  • Grants

  • In-kind gifts (books, supplies, equipment, services, etc.)

  • Planned gifts or legacy gifts, when appropriate

The organization reserves the right to decline any donation that is inconsistent with its mission, values, legal obligations, operational capacity, or nonprofit purpose.

4. Donor Privacy

Diaspora Whispers Inc. respects donor privacy.

  • Donor names, addresses, phone numbers, email addresses, and financial information will be kept confidential.

  • Donor information will never be sold, rented, or traded to third parties.

  • Information may only be shared with trusted service providers necessary for donation processing, accounting, or legal compliance.

  • Donors may request removal from mailing or email lists at any time.

5. Donor Recognition

Unless anonymity is requested, Diaspora Whispers Inc. may publicly acknowledge donors through:

  • Annual reports

  • Website recognition pages

  • Event programs

  • Social media appreciation posts

  • Campaign materials

Recognition levels may be established at the discretion of the organization.

6. Tax Receipts

Diaspora Whispers Inc. will provide written acknowledgment for eligible charitable donations in accordance with federal and state law. Donors should consult their tax advisor regarding deductibility.

7. Refund Policy

Donations are generally considered voluntary and non-refundable. However, refunds may be considered in cases of:

  • Duplicate transactions

  • Processing errors

  • Unauthorized charges

  • Donations determined to not align with the nonprofit’s goals, mission, or purpose

Refund requests should be submitted in writing within 30 days of the transaction. Diaspora Whispers Inc. reserves the right to review refund requests on a case-by-case basis.
